Analysis of the color-terms in Japanese

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na japonské výrazy, které označují barvy. Analýza těchto výrazů je prováděna na devíti konkrétních výrazech, které jsou zkoumány ze dvou odlišných hledisek. První hledisko formálně-morfologické se zabývá gramatickými formami těchto výrazů a jejich zastoupení ve vrstvách japonské slovní zásoby. Vysvětlení jevů, které odhalila předchozí analýza, podává analýza z hlediska kognitivní lingvistiky. Tato analýza je zaměřena na vysvětlení několika výzkumů, které svými výsledky napomáhají zodpovědět otázky, které zanechala analýza předchozí. Tyto výzkumy se zabývají vývoji výrazů, které označují barvy v jazyce, vysvětlením termínu „vzorové barvy“, nástinem fungování lidského vizuálně-senzorického aparátu a teorií kategorizace a její aplikací na kategorii barev. Cílem této práce je poukázat na vzájemné propojení dvou hledisek této analýzy a poukázat na nutnost zohlednit třetí hledisko analýzy, hledisko kulturní, které vysvětluje nesrovnalosti ve výsledcích analýzy z hlediska kognitivní lingvistiky.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on Japanese terms which represent colors. The analysis of these terms is carried out on nine specific expressions which are described from two points of view. The formally morphological point of view deals with grammatical forms of these expressions and their representation in the layers of Japanese lexicon. An explanation of the phenomenon, which the previous analysis has revealed, is given by the analysis from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. It explains several researches which, with their results, help to explain the questions the previous analysis left. These researches deal with the evolution of terms which represent colors, the explanation of the term “basic color terms”, the outline of the workings of the visual-sensorial system and the categorization theory and its application on the color category. The objective of the thesis is to point out the interconnection of the two points of view of the analysis and the necessity of taking into consideration a third, cultural point of view, which explains the differences in the results of the analysis from the point of view of cognitive linguistics.
