Two university-educated generations in a family and their intergenerational learning

Abstract:

V práci se zabývám problematikou mezigeneračního učení mezi dvěma vysokoškolsky studujícími generacemi jedné rodiny. Zkoumám, jak toto učení probíhá, jak vnímají sledované generace efekty těchto procesů při zvládání studia či studijních úkolů a zda tyto procesy ovlivňují mezigenerační komunikaci a vztahy. V teoretické části prezentuji základní okruhy – generace a generační vztahy, mezigenerační učení v rodině včetně specifik a efektů tohoto učení a formální vzdělávání v institucích. V empirické části se věnuji metodologii výzkumu a výsledkům výzkumného šetření, které jsem získala na základě individuálních rozhovorů se čtyřmi studujícími páry rodičů a jejich potomků. Díky získaným informacím následně popisuji probíhající procesy a jejich vliv na zvládnutí studia a na vzájemnou komunikaci a vztahy.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on problems of intergenerational learning. In a family with both generations studying at the university I examined the learning process and the perception of its effects by the involved individuals. I closely examined how they coped with their studies and study tasks, and whether these processes influenced their intergenerational communication and relationships. The theoretical part introduces the key topics – generations and generational relationships, intergenerational family learning, including its specificities and effects. I also analyze formal education in terciary institutions. In the empirical part of my work I focus on research methods and the results obtained from individual interviews with four studying parents and their children. The gathered information allowed me to describe several processes common to these families and their effect on communication and relationships in the families.
