Abstract:

Dětské sňatky jsou celosvětovým fenoménem, s odhadovaným počtem dětských nevěst na celém světě 12 milionů. Dětské sňatky jsou propojeny se socioekonomickým rozvojem dvěma způsoby: sňatky dětí řídí faktory; brání právům a rozvoji, jak je uznává mezinárodní normativní rámec. Tato výzkumná práce hodnotí obousměrný vztah mezi dětskými sňatky a socioekonomickým rozvojem v okrese Shewa Robit – Kewet v regionu Amhara v Etiopii. Zkoumá, jak je dětské manželství ovlivněno socioekonomickými faktory a je překážkou socioekonomického rozvoje ve zkoumané oblasti. Studie využívá kvalitativní a kvantitativní metodologii. Kvalitativní data byla shromážděna prostřednictvím rozhovorů s klíčovými informátory se zainteresovanými stranami; kvantitativní údaje byly shromážděny prostřednictvím dotazníku zaměřeného na ženy, které byly vdané nebo vstoupily do svazku před dosažením věku 18 let. Studie zjistila, že tradiční normy, včetně genderových stereotypů, rodinné cti, ekonomických důvodů a konfliktů, řídí dětské sňatky. Na druhé straně mají dětské sňatky vážné důsledky, které zahrnují předčasné ukončení školní docházky, zdravotní náklady, nedostatek ekonomických příležitostí a závislost a rozvod. Práce doporučuje robustní politické a právní intervence a programy navržené na základě přístupu zaměřeného na člověka a genderově transformativního přístupu.

Abstract:

Child marriage is a global phenomenon, with an estimated child brides of 12 million globally. Child marriage is inter-linked with socio-economic development in two ways: factors drive child marriage; it impedes rights and development as recognized under the international normative framework. This research thesis assesses the two-way relationship between child marriage and socio-economic development in Shewa Robit – Kewet District in Amhara Region in Ethiopia. It explores how child marriage is affected by socioeconomic factors and is an impediment to socio-economic development in the study area. The study employs qualitative and quantitative methodology. The qualitative data was gathered through key informant interviews with stakeholders; the quantitative data was collected through a questionnaire targeting women who were married or in union before age 18. The study finds that traditional norms, including gender stereotypes, family honour, economic reasons, and conflict, drive child marriage. On the other hand, child marriage has severe consequences that include dropping out of school, health costs, lack of economic opportunity and dependency, and divorce. The thesis recommends robust policy and legal interventions and programs designed based on the human-centred approach and gender transformative approach.
