Paracetamol and its effect on early stages of ontogenesis in selected plant species

Abstract:

Léčiva jsou považovány za pseudoperzistentní polutanty prostředí. Jejich hlavní enviromentální riziko tkví v kontinuálním vtoku do prostředí a biologické aktivitě. Cílem diplomové práce bylo zhodnotit vliv zvyšující se koncentrace hojně využívaného analgetika a antipyretika paracetamolu na klíčivost vybraných rostliných druhů a na vybrané růstové a fyziologické parametry hrachu setého. Klíčivost semen rajčete, hořčice, salátu a cibule nebyla významně ovlivněna žádnou z testovaných koncentrací 0,1; 10; 100 a 1000 µg/l paracetamolu. V navazujícím testu růstu klíčních rostlin byl jako modelový organismus zvolen hrách setý a koncentrační řada byla rozšířena o vyšší koncentrace (0,1; 1; 5 a 10 mg/l). Nejvyšší zvolená koncentrace způsobila snížení klíčivosti, a negativně ovlivňovala některé růstové parametry (délka kořene, délka stonku, plocha listů a listenů, hmotnost sušiny kořene). Primární procesy fotosyntézy se přítomností stresoru – paracetamolu v živném roztoku nebyly ovlivněny. Nejnižší koncentrace dokonce stimulovala tvorbu chlorofylu a v listech. Obsah karotenoidů byl snížen v nejnižší a nejvyšší koncentraci. Z výsledků vyplývá možný vliv na růst hrachu setého, nicméně jsou žádoucí navazující studie odhalující konkrétní místa působení paracetamolu v rostlinách.

Abstract:

Pharmaceuticals are considered as pseudo-persistent pollutants. The main risk of their presence in the environment is caused by their continuous entrance and biological activity of these compounds. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of increasing concentration of acetaminophen on germination of chosen plant species and effect on growth and some physiological parameters in pea plant. Germination tests were accomplished on species Solanum lycopersicum, Sinapis alba, Allium cepa, Lactuca sativa with concentrations 0,1; 10; 100 and 1000 µg/l of acetaminophen. These concentrations did not affect the germination. The subsequent test of the growth was performed on pea plant and the concentration scale was extended (0,1; 1; 5 and 10 mg/l). The highest concentration caused decrease in germination and other growth parameters (root and stem length, leaf and bract area, root dry mass). Primary photosynthetic processes were not affected by the presence of acetaminophen in nutrient solution. The lowest concentration even stimulated formation of chlorophyll a in leaves. Content of carotenoids was lowered in the lowest and highest concentration. The results show that the increased load of acetaminophen in the environment may negatively affect the growth of pea plant. The further studies are demand to reveal the exact site of influence if this drug in plant cells.
