Photography of Japan during the postwar period went through a radical transition from photo-realist approach which was focused on the study of national identity of the country to a more subjective approach of a new generation of photographers affected by the devastation of war. Japonská fotografie po druhé světové válce prošla radikální proměnou od fotorealistického přístupu, zaměřeného na zkoumání národní identity země, k více subjektivnímu přístupu nové generace fotografů zasažených hrůzami války.
