Application of some elements of the Dalton plan in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language

Abstract:

The work focuses on the Dalton plan, an alternative education method, to describe its main ideas and its workings and then apply some of its elements in traditional education of Spanish as a foreign language to enrich it with values and techniques that support individual development of the students. Based on the information about the method, we offer in the practical part some changes in the structure of the traditional class, then a concrete proposal for a monthly plan and a specific possibility of evaluation, all using Dalton features and resources. We divide the plan into four weekly subtopics where we try to use some of the typical resources such as the circular model, postponed attention, or voluntary tasks. In addition, we try to develop in the activities the four linguistic competencies and the three ideological principles of the method: freedom and responsibility, autonomy, and collaboration. We then present a possible use of the portfolio as a resource for individual reflection and evaluation. Finally, we analyze the process of creating the plan and we bring several possibilities of how it can be used or modified by a teacher to form similar materials. So, we can observe that an alternative education method, the Dalton plan, can represent a source of inspiration and enrichment for traditional education and that teachers can take advantage of it for their classes of Spanish as a foreign language.

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na alternativní metodu vzdělávání, Daltonský plán, s cílem popsat její klíčové myšlenky a její fungování a následně aplikovat některé její prvky do tradičního vzdělávání španělštiny jako cizího jazyka za účelem jeho obohacení o hodnoty a techniky, které podporují individuální rozvoj studentů. Na základě informací o této metodě nabízíme v praktické části práce některé změny ve struktuře tradiční hodiny a třídy, dále konkrétní návrh měsíčního plánu a specifickou možnost hodnocení, to vše s využitím znaků a prostředků metody Dalton. Měsíční plán dělíme do čtyř různých týdenních subtémat, ve kterých se snažíme použít některé typické Daltonské prostředky jako na příklad kruhový model, odloženou pozornost nebo dobrovolné úkoly. Navíc se v aktivitách snažíme rozvíjet čtyři základní jazykové dovednosti a tři ideologické principy dané metody: svobodu a odpovědnost, samostatnost a spolupráci. Následně uvádíme možné užití portfolia jako nástroje pro individuální reflexi a hodnocení. Na závěr, rozebereme proces tvorby plánu a nastíníme několik možností, jak jej může učitel použít nebo upravit k vytvoření podobných materiálů. Můžeme tedy pozorovat, jak alternativní metoda vzdělávání, Daltonský plán, může přestavovat zdroj inspirace a obohacení tradičního vzdělávání a jak jej mohou učitelé využít při výuce španělštiny jako cizího jazyka.
