Gender Bending in the Society after the First World War

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the period after the First World War, which is generally called the Roaring Twenties. The first part of this thesis describes generally the Roaring Twenties and its economical and technological development and cultural life. The second part concentrates on the particular changes regarding with women of this period. This part describes changes in fields such as work force, women´s suffrage, changes in behaviour and also appearance of women. The last, third part, is devoted to the novels of Francis Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Their novels The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises provide a background for studying social changes of the Roaring Twenties especially changes connected with women.

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na období po první světové válce, které je obecně nazývané bouřlivá dvacátá léta. První část práce popisuje obecně dvacátá léta dvacátého století, jejich ekonomický a technologický vývoj a kulturní život. Druhá část se zaměřuje na změny související se změnou osobnosti žen tohoto období. Tato část popisuje zapojení žen v pracovní síle, jejich boj za volební právo, ale také jejich vzhled a chování. Poslední, třetí část, je věnována románům Francise Scotta Fizgeralda a Ernesta Hemingwaye. Jejich romány Velký Gatsby a I slunce vychází se odehrávají právě v této době, a proto jsou vhodné pro popis společenských změn tohoto období, zvláště změn týkající se žen.
