Analysis of financial statements of Czech theaters in terms of quality of reporting

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá kvalitou vykazování obsaženou v účetních závěrkách českých divadel, která z tohoto pohledu nejsou doposud dostatečně prozkoumána. Práce nejprve v teoretické části pojednává o významu účetnictví pro ekonomický život a popisuje jakými způsoby je ošetřeno zajištění kvality účetnictví. Dále se zabývá problematikou tzv. earnings managementu. Větší pozornosti se dostává i samotné účetní závěrce a jejího případného auditu, a to s přihlédnutím k novele zákona o účetnictví platné od roku 2016. Praktická část je zaměřena na porovnání dvou divadel, velkého soukromého divadla a divadla napojeného na veřejné financování, a to rozborem jejich účetních závěrek za rok 2017 z hlediska kvality vykazování a v případě divadla napojeného na veřejné financování i rozborem zprávy auditora a výroční zprávy. Pro účetní závěrky obou divadel jsou stanoveny hypotézy týkající se věrného a poctivého obrazu. Závěr praktické části obsahuje potvrzení či vyvrácení stanovených hypotéz.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the quality of reporting contained in the financial statements of Czech theaters, which have not been sufficiently explored from this point of view. The thesis first deals with the importance of accounting for economic life in the theoretical part and describes how to ensure the quality of accounting through methodical elements. It also deals with the issue of earnings management. Greater attention is paid to the financial statements themselves and their possible audit, taking into account the amendments to the Accounting Act in force since 2016. The practical part is aimed at comparing two theaters, a large private theater and a theater connected to public financing and analysis of their financial statements for the quality of reporting in 2017 and, in the case of theater connected to public financing, also the auditor's report and the annual report. For the financial statements of both theaters, there are hypotheses concerning the true and fair view. At the conclusion of the practical part, these hypotheses should be confirmed or refuted.
