Influence of „seed years“ on populations of the granivorous rodents

Abstract:

V diplomové práci byl hodnocen vztah mezi lesními hlodavci a semeny dřevin, které nejsou stále zcela jasné. Jsou ale důležité pro zhodnocení vlivu drobných semenožravých savců na obnovu lesa. Rešerše nastínila ekologii našich dvou nejvýznamnějších lesních hlodavců: myšice lesní (Apodemus flavicollis) a norníka rudého (Myodes glareolus). Dále se zabývala problematikou NIRS (spektroskopie v blízké infračervené oblasti) a v neposlední řadě hodnotí populační dynamiku hlodavců a jejich vzájemný vztah s dřevinami. Praktická část byla zaměřena na ověření těchto vztahů. Hodnotila dynamiku myšice lesní a norníka rudého v letech 2002 až 2010 v jihomoravských lesích a v letech 2007 až 2010 na Drahanské vrchovině. Myšice lesní vykazovala nárůst denzity na podzim v roce následujícím po semenném roce. Podobně reagovala na úrodu semen populace norníka rudého. V dalších experimentech jsem se zaměřila na myšici lesní, která je na semenech dřevin více závislá. Pohlavní aktivita samic byla v roce semenném vyšší než v následujícím roce. To bylo způsobeno zřejmě tím, že samice při vysokých abundancích odkládaly rozmnožování. Semenným rokem byla pozitivně ovlivněna i hmotnost myšic v dalším roce. Žaludky čtyř semenožravých hlodavců byly analyzovány metodou NIRS. Metoda ukázala nejširší rozsah obsahu dusíkatých látek myšice křovinné (Apodemus sylvaticus), která má nejširší potravní i prostorovou niku. Podle shlukové analýzy tento druh tvořil spojnici mezi hrabošovitými hlodavci, norníkem rudým a hrabošem polním (Microtus arvalis), a myšicí lesní. Nejširší spektrum obsahu dusíkatých látek v žaludcích bylo zaznamenáno v semenných letech (2006 a 2009). V pokusech byly hodnoceny potravní preference norníka rudého mezi semeny lípy (Tilia sp.) javoru mléče (Acer platanoides) a klenu (Acer pseudoplatanus). Norník signifikantně preferoval lípu před oběma javory, mezi nimiž preference prokázána nebyla. Dále bylo hodnoceno množství zkonzumovaných žaludů (plody Quercus petrarea) a bukvic (plody Fagus sylvatica) myšicí lesní a norníkem rudým. Myšice denně konzumovala průměrně 7,2 g žaludů a 4,25 g bukvic. Norník zkonzumoval 6 g žaludů a 2,8 g bukvic. Výsledky obou pokusů byly využity k orientačnímu zhodnocení množství semen, které jsou schopny zkonzumovat populace těchto hlodavců v přírodě.

Abstract:

Influence of „seed years“ on populations of the granivorous rodents: In this thesis the relationship between forest rodents and seeds of wood species, which was not still fully elucidated, was evaluated. Nevertheless the understanding of this relationship is essential for estimation of impact of small granivorous mammals on the natural regeneration of forest. The review dealt with the ecology of our most important forest rodents: yellow-necked mouse (Apodemus flavicollis) and bank vole (Myodes glareolus). Moreover the review described the method of NIRS (near infrared spectroscopy) and summarized the population dynamics of rodents and their mutual relationship with wood species. The research was focused on verification of above mentioned relationship. The dynamics of yellow-necked mouse and bank vole was assessed in South Moravian forests and in Drahanská Highlands. The increased density of population of yellow-necked mouse and bank vole was observed in autumn following the seed year. The further experiments were focused on the population of yellow-necked mouse, which is more dependent on the seeds of wood species than the population of bank vole. The activity of reproduction of the female individual was higher in the seed year than in the following year. This observation was probably caused by the fact, that female individual had postponed the reproduction due to the high density of population. The seed year positively affected the weight of yellow-necked mice in the following year. The stomachs of four species of granivorous rodents were analyzed by the method of NIRS. This approach revealed, that the widest range of content of nitrogenous substance has wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus), for which the widest dietary and spatial niche is typical. According to the cluster analysis this species is the connection between the vole rodents, bank vole and common vole (Microtus arvalis) and yellow-necked mouse. The widest range of content of nitrogenous substances in the stomachs was noticed in the seed years. In the experiments the food preferences of bank vole were estimated between seeds of lime tree (Tilia sp.), Norway maple (Acer platanoides ) and sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). The significant preference for lime tree prior to both maples was proved. On the contrary there was no preference between the both maples. Futhermore the amount of consumed acorns (Quercus petrarea ) and beechmast (Fagus sylvatica ) by the yellow.necked mouse and bank vole was studied. The results of experiments were used to evaluate the quantity of the seeds, which are consumed by the populations of these rodents in the wildlife.
