Population aging in South Korea

Abstract:

Jižní Korea ve druhé polovině 20. století patřila k chudým rozvojovým státům s vysokou mírou fertility. Obavy vlády z příliš rychlého populačního růstu vedly v 60. letech k přijetí restriktivní populační politiky, která spolu s dalšími faktory způsobila pokles fertility pod hranici přirozené obnovy populace. Cílem této práce je určit hlavní dopady populační politiky na současnou populaci a shrnout nejdůležitější opatření jihokorejské vlády a jejich efektivitu při řešení problému stárnutí populace ve 21. století. Bakalářská práce je rozdělená do tří kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá demografií a charakterizuje základní demografické ukazatele a modely sloužící k popisu populace. Druhá kapitola se věnuje jihokorejské populační politice v druhé polovině 20. století a poté popisuje současný stav populace a hlavní problémy související se stárnutím. Poslední kapitola je zaměřená na korejskou populační politiku 21. století a na klíčová opatření související se stárnutím populace - zejména na ta podporující seniory, rodiny a snažící se o opětovný růst fertility.

Abstract:

In the second half of the 20th century, South Korea belonged among poor developing countries with high fertility rate. Government fear of too rapid population growth led to the introduction of a restrictive population policy in the 1960s, which, together with other factors, caused that the fertility rate declined below the replacement rate.The aim of this thesis is to identify the main impacts of the population policy on the current population and to summarize the most important measures of the South Korean government and their efficiency in solving the problem of population aging in the 21st century.The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to demography and defines basic demographic indicators and models used to describe the population. The second chapter deals with South Korean population policy in the second half of the 20th century and then describes the current state of population and the main problems related to aging. The last chapter focuses on Korean population policy in the 21st century and on the key aging-related measures - especially those that support seniors, families and seek to re-grow the fertility rate.
