From the West to the East? Transformation of Turkey's foreign policy in the context of changes in domestic policy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá proměnou turecké zahraniční politiky s nástupem Strany spravedlnosti a rozvoje (AKP) k moci. Konkrétně se práce zaměřuje na změnu kurzu turecké zahraniční politiky, resp. zda turecká zahraniční politika za vlády strany AKP změnila svoji orientaci od Západu na Východ. Dále se zaměřuje na míru ovlivnění zahraniční politiky politickou ideologií – v případě Turecka se jedná o míru ovlivnění zahraniční politiky doktrínou „strategické hloubky“. První kapitola obsahuje teoretický rámec týkající se vnějších a vnitřních faktorů ovlivňujících tvorbu zahraniční politiky. Následuje kapitola zobrazující vývoj turecké zahraniční politiky od vzniku republiky až po rok 2002, kdy ve volbách zvítězila strana AKP. Ve třetí kapitole je nejprve charakterizována ideologie strany AKP a doktrína „strategické hloubky“, poté jsou prostřednictvím metody komparace zachyceny změny turecké zahraniční politiky ve vztahu s vybranými aktéry mezinárodních vztahů.

Abstract:

The theme of this bachelor thesis is the transformation of Turkey’s foreign policy in relation to the accession of Justice and Development Party (JDP) to the power. Specifically, the bachelor thesis is focused on the change in the course of foreign policy, respectively whether the Turkish foreign policy under the JDP has changed its orientation from the West to the East. Furthermore, this thesis is also focused on the degree of influence of political ideology on foreign policy - in the case of Turkey, the degree of influence by the doctrine Strategic Depth. The first chapter contains a theoretical framework about external and internal factors influencing the making of foreign policy. The second chapter shows the development of Turkish foreign policy since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey until 2002, when the JDP won the election. The third chapter firstly defines the ideology of the JDP and the doctrine Strategic Depth. Then, by means of the comparison method, the changes of Turkish foreign policy in relation to selected actors of international relations are captured.
