Harpacticoid assemblages (Copeoda: Harpacticoida) in selected streams of the White Carpathians: the effect of mesohabitat

Abstract:

V této práci jsem zkoumala taxocenózy plazivek na potocích Západních Karpat. Cílem bylo popsat jejich druhové složení, zjistit jak se druhové zastoupení liší mezi třemi různými mesohabitaty (proudnice, tišinka, mechy) a nalézt proměnné prostředí, které mají významný vliv na distribuci plazivek v potocích. K výzkumu bylo vybráno 15 potoků moravsko-slovenského pomezí, rozdělených do tří skupin na bazické teplejší, chladné rychle proudící a malé kyselejší. Celkem bylo na západokarpatských potocích nalezeno 6013 jedinců plazivek determinovaných do 15 druhů a náležících do jediné čeledi Canthocamptidae. Všechny nalezené druhy byly v této oblasti v minulosti již zaznamenány. Výrazně nejpočetnějším druhem na všech lokalitách byl Bryocamptus spinulosus, na Moravě a Slovensku běžný druh různých typů vod. Významné rozdíly v druhové bohatosti a abundancích mezi mesohabitaty nebyly prokázány. Byl zde nicméně náznak, že se distribuce plazivek mezi mesohabitaty liší v závislosti na fyzikálně-chemických podmínkách a morfologii toku. Pro nedostatek opakování ale nebylo možné tento předpoklad statisticky potvrdit. Z proměnných prostředí mělo významný vliv na variabilitu druhových dat zejména množství balvanů a kamenů. V potocích s jejich vyšší pokryvností bylo výrazně méně druhů a nižší abundance plazivek. Druhým významným faktorem byla nadmořská výška. Pozorovala jsem, že ve většině potoků ležících ve vyšších nadmořských výškách (nad 700 m n. m.) se vyskytují druhově bohatší a početnější společenstva plazivek. V meších byla distribuce plazivek významně ovlivněna pH vody. Ve směru klesající hodnoty pH klesala také druhová bohatost plazivek v potocích.

Abstract:

In this thesis, I studied harpacticoid assemblages in streams of the Western Carpathians. I aimed to describe the species composition, to test the differences in the species composition, richness and abundance between three different mesohabitats (riffle, pool, moss) and find significant environmental variables influencing the distribution of harpacticoids in streams. 15 streams at the moravian-slovakian border were chosen for the study, divided into three groups: basic warmer, cold rapidly flowing and small acidic. In total, 6013 individuals were determined into 15 species belonging to the family Canthocamptidae. All of the species found have already been recorded in this area. The most abundant species at all sites was Bryocamptus spinulosus, a species common in different water types in Moravia and Slovakia. Differences in species richness and abundances between mesohabitats were not significant. Neverthless, it seemed that the distribution of harpacticoids between the mesohabitats differed in relation to physico-chemical conditions and morphology of the stream. However this was not statistically significant due to low number of replication. Amount of boulders and stones was the most significant environmental variable explaining the species data variation. A decline of the number of species and abundances was found in the streams with increasing cover of this substrate type. The second significant envrironmental variable was altitude. Species richer and more abundant harpacticoid assemblages were found in most of the streams situated in higher altitudes (above 700 m a. s. l.). In addition, the harpacticoid distribution in mosses was significantly influenced by pH. There was a decline of harpacticoid species richness in streams with decreasing pH.
