Gender differences in the Czech Labour Market

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na genderové rozdíly na českém trhu práce a systematicky tyto rozdíly za pomocí ekonomických ukazatelů analyzuje. Následná rešerše literatury představuje četné studie, které se tímto tématem vzhledem k růz- ným kontextům zabývají, a také zmiňuje možnosti, jak tyto rozdíly eliminovat, včetně manažerských řešení. Na základě empiricky dokázaných rozdílů na pracovním trhu pak bakalářská práce dodává aspekt managmentu a táže se, jaká je role žen v ma- nagementu jako agents of change v otázce genderových rozdílů na trhu práce? V aplikační části práce tuto výzkumnou otázku skrze kvalitativní metodu rozhovoru se ženami ve vedoucích pozicích ve feminizovaných odvětvích zodpovídá a mapuje motivace respondentek pro či proti tomu, aby působily jako hybatelky změn ve svých odvětvích a pracovištích. Práce nedochází k potvrzení hypotézy, že ženy univerzálně ve všech případech působí jako hybatelky změn. Ukazuje také, že některé ženy ve vedoucích pozicích spíše usilují o zachování stávajícího stavu. I přesto, že se některé manažerky ztotožňují s principy hybatelek změn, jsou empatické, homofilní a snaží se situaci žen zlepšit, není tomu tak ve všech případech.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the gender differences in the Czech labour market and systematically analyzes these differences based on economic variables. The literature review introduces various studies which deal with this topic with regard to specific contexts, and also mentions different solutions, including the managerial ones. After confirming the differences empirically, there is added the aspect of management. Specifically, the question is, what is the role of women in management as agents of change, regarding gender differences in the labour market? The practical part of this thesis answers this question using qualitative method of interviews with women in executive positions in feminized fields. This part maps the motivations of the respondents for and against being agents of change in their environments. The thesis does not confirm the hypothesis that women universally and in all cases behave as agents of change. The interviews show that some respondents in managerial positions rather strive to maintain the current situation. Despite the fact some respondents go along with the principles of the concept of agents of change, they are empathetic and homophilous, and try to improve the situation of their female colleagues, it is not likewise in all introduced cases.
