Abstract:

This thesis delves into the intricate process of creating and translating subtitles, with a specific focus on evaluating translators' strategic decisions, particularly when dealing with humor and culturally specific references. The discussion begins by examining contemporary practices in audiovisual translation. Notably, it dissects the discourse of both the British original version and the subsequent American remake, emphasizing critical aspects. The translation strategies employed for both versions are then introduced, shedding light on the challenges confronted by translators in this context.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je popsat proces tvorby a překladů titulků. Zejména zhodnocení strategických rozhodnutí překladatelů při práci s humorem a kulturně specifickými odkazy. Práce nejdříve pojednává o současných postupech v audiovizuálním překladu. Práce poukazuje na diskurs britské verze a poté amerického remaku, kde jsou vytyčeny nejdůležitější aspekty. Dále jsou představeny překladatelské strategie při překladu obou verzí a zhodnoceny výzvy, kterým překladatelé museli čelit.
