Předmětem této práce je právo na soukromý a rodinný život dle Článku 8 Evropské úmluvy o lidských právech. Jsou zde vymezeny základní pojmy, včetně pojmu rodina a rodinný život. Dále je práce zaměřena na postavení dítěte zejména v judikatuře Evropského soudu pro lidská práva, mezinárodní únosy dětí rodiči, výkon rodičovské odpovědnosti a právo dítěte znát svůj původ.
