Chechnya as prisoner of three law systems: incompatibility of law traditions as security threat?

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou neslučitelnosti právních systémů na území Čečenska. Na základě analýzy vybraných indikátorů je hledána odpověď na otázky, jak střet rozdílných právních tradic v Čečensku ovlivňuje stabilitu čečenské společnosti a zda představuje bezpečnostní hrozbu. Problematika je zkoumána jak v historických souvislostech, tak s ohledem na současné dění, dotýká se islámského radikalismu i čečenského nacionalismu. Pozornost je věnována taktéž pokusům o ustavení nezávislé čečenské státní entity, včetně nedávno vzniklého Kavkazského emirátu.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis deals with the incompatibility of legal systems on the territory of Chechnya. Based on the analysis of selected indicators, the thesis tries to find answers for the questions how the conflict of different legal traditions in Chechnya affects the stability of Chechen society, and whether it constitues a security threat. The issue is examined both in the historical context and in light of current events, with overlaps into Islamic radicalism and Chechen nationalism. The attention is also paid to attempts to establish an independent Chechen entity, including the recently formed Caucasus Emirate.
