Foreign Correspondence as a Life Style (series of interviews with Czech foreign correspondents)

Abstract:

Práce je věnována tématu zahraničního zpravodajství a jeho podobám na české mediální scéně. Série rozhovorů s českými zahraničními zpravodaji přibližuje specifika profese zahraničního korespondenta. V části zabývající se teorií zahraničního zpravodajství je popsán vývoj této disciplíny a vliv technologického vývoje na pracovní postupy a význam korespondentů. Na základě cizojazyčné odborné literatury vznikla charakteristika zahraničního zpravodaje, z níž autorka vycházela při tvorbě otázek pro interview. Na výklad zahraničního zpravodajství navazuje část o teoretických aspektech rozhovorů, která popisuje žurnalistický rozhovor jako žánr a předpokládané znaky interview se zahraničními zpravodaji. Je zde představen mediální titul, pro nějž jsou rozhovory určené, výběr zpovídaných zpravodajů a tematické oblasti interview. Kapitola rovněž obsahuje sadu elementárních map zahraničních zpravodajů v českých médiích. Po dvou teoretických kapitolách následuje sada sedmi interview s českými zahraničími korespondenty a reflexe rozhovorů, na něž navazuje srovnání praktické tváře zahraničního zpravodaje s teoretickým portrétem z druhé kapitoly. Zkušenosti zpovídaných zpravodajů do značné míry odpovídají údajům v odborné literatuře, v některých oblastech se však rozchází.

Abstract:

The focus of the thesis is on foreign correspondence and its forms on the Czech media scene. A series of interviews with Czech foreign correspondents outlines particularities of the profession of foreign correspondents. In the part dealing with the theory of foreign correspondence, there are the development of the discipline and the influence of technological progress on the professional practices and status of correspondents described. On the basis of foreign-language literature, there was a characterization of foreign correspondents formulated which served as groundwork for defining a set of questions for the interviews. The part on the theory of foreign correspondence follows up with a section on the theoretical aspects of interview. It describes the genre of journalistic interview and anticipated features of interviews with foreign correspondents. The media title in which the interviews could be published in is also described in this part, as well as the choice of interviewed correspondents and thematic areas of interviews. Moreover, the chapter includes a set of elementary maps of foreign correspondents in the Czech media. After the two theoretical chapters there is a series of seven interviews with Czech foreign correspondents and its reflexion followed up with a comparison of the practical character of correspondents and theoretical profile as established in the second chapter. The experience of interviewed correspondents complies with information stated in the literature to considerable extent, in some areas they nonetheless diverge.
