Tradition and the Current State of Bilateral Relations between Czech Republic and Italy

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tradicí a současností česko-italských vztahů. Hlavním cílem je charakterizovat základní trendy, formativní faktory a skutečnosti, které ovlivnily česko-italské vztahy během jejich vývoje až do současné doby. K dosažení tohoto cíle práce analyzuje vývoj těchto vztahů napříč historií obou států, a to od vzniku prvních státních útvarů na českém území až po nové výzvy roku 2020. Teoretická část se zabývá definicí velkých a malých států v mezinárodních vztazích a jejich zahraniční politikou, a tyto poznatky následně aplikuje na Českou republiku jako malý stát a Itálii jako velký stát. Hlavní část práce se poté soustředí na již zmíněný vývoj vzájemných vztahů, převážně z českého pohledu s přihlédnutím k vnitřním vývoji obou států a definuje tak faktory, které česko-italské vztahy ovlivnily. Třetí kapitola je věnována současné podobě česko-italských vztahů a institucím a strukturám, skrze které jsou tyto vztahy rozvíjeny.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the tradition and the current state of relations between the Czech Republic and Itaky. Its main objective is to characterize the main trends, formative factors and events that shaped these relations throughout history to present day. To achieve this objective the thesis employs a historical analysis of development of mutual relations between both states, starting with the first state structures within Czech territory up until the new challenges that the year 2020 presents. The theoretical part focuses on definition of large and small state actors in international relations and their foreign policy, and later applies these findings to define Czech Republic as small state and Italy as large state. The main body of the thesis concentrates on the historical development of Czech-Italian relations, mostly from the Czech point of view, and by doing so defines the main formative factors of said relations. The third chapter presents the current status of the relations between Czech Republic and Italy with focus on the institutions and structures that enable the cultivation of mutual relations.
