Roger Scruton's Argumentation for Imposibility of Pfotography to become a Representational Art

Abstract:

Přítomná bakalářská práce se zabývá esejem "Fotografie a zobrazení" Rogera Scrutona předloženým v knize Estetické porozumění: Eseje o filozofii, uměmí a kultuře. Nabízíme, v prvé řadě, argumenty Rogera Scrutona pro nemožnost fotografie být zobrazujícím uměním a následně též diskutujeme širší analytické a filosofické pozadí této argumentace. Nakonec mapujeme akedemickou diskusi, síť kritických protiargumentů předložených v následujících dvou desetiletích rozličnými autory soudobé estetiky a teorie umění.

Abstract:

The present BA thesis deals with Roger Scruton essay "Photography and Representation" presented in "The Aesthetic Undersranding: Essays in the Philosophy of Art and Culture. We, firstly, offer arguments for imposibility of photography to become a represenatational art form developed Roger Scruton and consequently we discuss wider analytical and philosophical background of the analysis presented. Finally, we map the academic discussion, the "web" of counter-arguments presented in past two decades by contemporary art cricics and theorists.
