The Phenomenon of the Dream in the Works of Franz Kafka

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá fenoménem snu v díle pražského německy píšícího autora Franze Kafky (1883–1924). Je složena z pěti kapitol, z nichž první dvě se věnují osobnosti a životu tohoto významného spisovatele a filozoficko-psychologickému úvodu k pojmu „sen“. Třetí kapitola pojednává o vztahu Kafky ke snům a snění, čtvrtá se věnuje literárněvědnému pojmu „motiv“. Následující část se třemi podkapitolami se zabývá motivickou analýzou a funkcí, rolí a podobou snu ve vybraných Kafkových dílech: „Ortel“ (1913), Proces (1925) a „Proměna“ (1915). Závěrečná část práce shrnuje a srovnává poznatky o fenoménu snu získané z analýzy vybraných prozaických děl.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of the dream in the work of the Prague German author Franz Kafka (1883–1924). It consists of five chapters, first two of them are devoted to the personality and life of this important writer and a philosophical-psychological introduction to the concept of "dream". The third chapter deals with Kafka's relationship to dreams and dreaming, and the fourth chapter is devoted to the literary concept of "motive". The following section, with three sub-sections, deals with a motivic analysis and the function, role, and form of the dream in selected works by Kafka: “The Judgement” (1913), The Trial (1925), and “The Metamorphosis” (1915). The final part of the thesis summarizes and compares the findings on the phenomenon of the dream obtained from the analysis of the selected prose works.
