Manifestations of Biopower in the Context of Selected Cases from Czech Obstetrics

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována tématu projevů biomoci v kontextu porodnictví. Jedná se o kvalitativní obsahovou analýzu výpovědí českých žen. Výpovědi jsou uveřejněny v knize Porodní příběhy: rodíme se jednou, kterou vydalo APERIO Společnost pro zdravé rodičovství. Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, jak se v kontextu těchto případů prezentuje biomoc a jak je udržována. Hlavními teoretickými koncepty, z nichž práce vychází jsou koncept biomoci Michela Foucalta a koncept autoritativního vědění Brigitte Jordan. Tyto koncepty slouží k pochopení fungování biomedicínského modelu a vysvětlují jakým způsobem dochází k reprodukci moci ve zdravotnických institucích. Analytická část práce se zabývá samotnou analýzou výpovědí žen. Práce se zaměřuje na konkrétní projevy biomoci v rámci zdravotnických zařízení. Důraz je kladen především na hierarchii fungující v prostředí nemocnice a na způsoby jakými dochází k disciplinaci lidských těl za pomoci dohledu zdravotnického personálu. Konkrétně pak především na princip transparence, který slouží ke stanovení pevného institucionálního řádu a napomáhá tak k funkčnímu zvládání těla, které biomedicínský model chápe jako nezbytné. Důležitým aspektem jsou i normativní očekávání, vycházející mimo jiné i z genderových norem, spojená s jednáním pacientek a samotná snaha pacientek o naplnění těchto očekávání.

Abstract:

This bachelors thesis is devoted to speeches of biopower in the context of obstetrics. This is a qualitative content analysis of the testimonies of Czech women. Allegations are published in the book Birthing stories: we are born once, it issued APERIO Healthy Parenting. The aim of the thesis is to find out how, in the context of these cases presents biopower and how it is maintained. The main theoretical concepts on which work is based on the concept of biopower Michel Foucault and the concept of authoritative knowledge Brigitte Jordan. These concepts are used to understand the functioning of the biomedical model and explain how it is able to reproduce power in health care institutions. The analytical part is dedicated to the analysis of testimonies from women. The work focuses on concrete manifestations of biopower in health facilities. Emphasis is placed on the hierarchy of working in a hospital environment and ways in which there is to discipline the human body with the help of the supervision of medical staff. Specifically, primarily on the principle of transparency, which is used to create a solid institutional order and helping to functional management body that understands the biomedical model as necessary. An important aspect of the normative expectations are based inter alia on gender norms associated with the negotiation of patients and the patients themselves the effort to meet these expectations.
