Tiling a chessboard by domino bricks

Abstract:

V této práci se věnujeme počtu možností, jak pokrýt šachovnici rozměrů n x m dominovými kostkami. Pokrytím šachovnice máme na mysli takové umístění dominových kostek (z nichž každá zakryje právě dvě pole šachovnice), že všechna pole šachovnice jsou pokryta a dominové kostky se nepřekrývají. Hledaný počet udává věta, kterou nezávisle na sobě objevili P. V. Kasteleyn a H. N. V. Temperley spolu s M. E. Fisherem. Cílem této diplomové práce je co nejsrozumitelněji vysvětlit důkaz této věty.

Abstract:

In this thesis we study the number of tilings of a chessboard n x m by domino bricks. By a tiling we have in mind an arrangement of domino bricks on a chessboard (each domino brick covers exactly two squares) to cover all squares of the chessboard without overlapping. This number is given by a theorem independently discovered by P. V. Kasteleyn and by H. N. V. Temperley with M. E. Fisher. The aim of this thesis is to explain the proof of this theorem as clearly as possible.
