Parental communication about interparental conflicts and maladaptation in adolescents

Abstract:

Studie se zabývá vztahem mezi komunikací rodičů o rodičovských konfliktech a maladaptací adolescentů ve věku 17 až 20 let (M = 18,3; SD = 0,86). Jejím cílem bylo vytvořit novou škálu měřicí rodičovskou komunikaci o konfliktech a zjistit, zda rodičovská komunikace o rodičovských konfliktech souvisí s depresivitou adolescentů. Pozornost je věnována také moderačnímu vlivu konfliktovosti a důvěry adolescentů ve své rodi-če. Data od 246 respondentů byla získána prostřednictvím administrace kombinace tří dotazníkových metod (Škála dětské percepce konfliktu mezi rodiči, CPIC; Dotazník nálady a pocitů, MFQ; Dotazník citové vazby k rodičům a vrstevníkům, IPPA). V rámci studie byl dotazník CPIC rozšířen o novou dimenzi rodičovské komunikace, která byla pro účely této studie vytvořena. Výsledky ukázaly, že rodičovská komunikace o konfliktech není prediktorem depresivních symptomů adolescentů. Rovněž se nepotvrdila souvislost mezi některými typy rodičovské pokonfliktní komunikace, jako potvrzení a sdělování soukromých informací, a depresivními symptomy. Bylo však zjištěno, že konstruktivní zarámování je signifikantním prediktorem adolescentních depresivních symptomů. Dále se ukázalo, že vysoká konfliktovost nemá účinek na sílu vztahu mezi jednotlivými typy rodičovské pokonfliktní komunikace (náklonnost, výčitky svědomí a popí-rání) a depresivními symptomy adolescentů. Stejně tak důvěra k rodičům nemoderuje vztah mezi rodičovskou pokonfliktní komunikací o konfliktech a depresivními symptomy adolescentů.

Abstract:

The study focuses on a relationship between parental communication about interparental conflicts and ma-ladaptation of adolescents at the age from 17 to 20 years (M = 18,3; SD = 0,86). The aim of this study was to create a new scale measuring parental communication about conflicts and find out if parental communica-tion about interparental conflicts is realted to adolsecents‘ depresivity. Attention is also paid to a moderatory affect of adolescents' trust in their parents and the level of conflict situation. The data were obtained from 246 respondents gained via administration of a combination of three questionnaires (Children's Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale, CPIC; Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, IPPA; Mood and Feelings Questi-onnaire, MFQ). A new dimension of parental communication of CPIC questionnaire was designed and it extended the current form of CPIC. The results show that parental communication about interparental conflicts does not predict depressive symptoms in adolescents. It was, however, found out that constructive framing is a significant predictor of adolescents‘ depressive symptoms. The relationship between some of the types of parental postconflict communication (validation and communicating private information) was not found to be significant either. Furthermore, it showed up that the high level of conflict situation does not affect the strength of the relationship between certain types of interparental postconflict communication (affection, remorse and renunciation) and depressive symptoms in adolescents. The trust in parents does not moderate the relationship between parental postconflict comunication about conflicts and depressive symptoms in adolescents either.
