The Process and Criteria for Selecting a Successor to Lead a Family Business Owned by Siblings

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce má za cíl zkoumat proces a kritéria výběru nástupníka do rodinného podniku, který byl založen či veden sourozenci a následně předán další generaci. Proces předání a nastavení kritérií, podle jichž se podniky rozhodují komu rodinné dědictví předat, je velmi významným a důležitým životním krokem rodin, které se podnikání věnují. Pomocí kvalitativní metody, prostřednictvím hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovorů byla získaná data a následně analyzovaná otevřeným kódováním, jímž byl zjištěn proces a faktory, podle kterých se majitelé rozhodovali, komu z potomků rodinné podniky předají. Závěr této práce předkládá souhrn výsledků a doporučení pro rodinné společnosti, podle kterých by proces a výběr následníků do funkce vlastníka podniku mohl napomoci k hladšímu předání nástupnictví a stejně tak je mohl inspirovat k dalšímu generačnímu předání dle vhodně nastavených kritérií. Jedno z hlavních kritérií, které zmínily všechny rodinné společnosti, je zohledňování zájmu potenciálních nástupníků rodinný podnik převzít.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to examine the process and criteria for selecting a successor to a family business that was founded or managed by siblings and subsequently passed on to the next generation. The process of handing over and setting the criteria according to which companies decide to whom to hand over the family heritage is a very significant and important step in the life of families who are engaged in business. Using a qualitative method, through in-depth semi-structured interviews, the data was obtained and subsequently analyzed by open coding, which revealed the process and factors according to which the owners decided to whom of the descendants they would hand over the family businesses. The conclusion of this work presents a summary of results and recommendations for family companies, in agreement with the process and selection of successors to the function of business owner could help to make the succession smoother and could also inspire them to the next generational succession according to appropriately set criteria. One of the main criteria mentioned by all family companies is taking into account the interest of potential successors in taking over the family business.
