The Conflicts between Adolescents and Parents and styles of their Solution

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá frekvencí konfliktů adolescentů s rodiči a styly jejich řešení v souvislosti s mírou vnímané citové vazby a mírou psychologického odporu. V teoretické části je uvedeno deset nejběžnějších oblastí, ve kterých konflikty vznikají, styly řešení konfliktu v závislosti na úrovni blízkých citových vztahů uvnitř rodiny a konstrukt psychologického odporu. Cílem bylo zjistit, do jaké míry je užívání konkrétních stylů – zaangažovanost v konfliktu, pozitivní řešení, útěk od problému a vyhovění, ovlivněno mírou citové vazby k rodičům a mírou psychologického odporu. V této kvantitativní studii výzkumný vzorek zahrnuje 214 studentů středních škol ve věku 17-19 let. Styly řešení konfliktu byly měřeny pomocí The Conflict Resolution Style Inventory (CRSI), míra citové vazby k rodičům byla měřena pomocí The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) a míra psychologického odporu pomocí Hong´s Psychological Reactance Scale (HPRS). Výsledky ukazují, že i pozdní adolescenti mají nejvíce konfliktů v oblastech pomoci s domácími pracemi, školním prospěchem a vztahy s ostatními členy rodiny. Co se týká volby stylu řešení konfliktu, adolescenti s vyšší citovou vazbou k rodičům používají pozitivní styl řešení konfliktů. Nižší míra citové vazby k matce souvisí se stylem útěk od problému, a nižší míra citové vazby k otci souvisí se stylem zaangažovanost v konfliktu. V souvislosti s vyšší mírou psychologického odporu adolescenti častěji užívají styl zaangažovanost v konfliktu nebo útěk od problému.

Abstract:

This work deals with frequency of adolescent´s conflicts with parents and their resolution´s style in connection with perceived degree of emotional attachment and degree of psychological reactance. In the theoretical part is indicated ten the most common areas for the formation of conflicts, the styles of conflict resolution depending on the level of close emotional relationships within the family, and construct of psychological reactance. The goal of the study was to find out to what extent the use of particular styles – conflict engagement, positive problem solving, withdrawall and compliance, influences by the degree of emotional attachment to parents and the degree of psychological reactance. In this quantitative study the research sample included 214 grammar school students from 17 to 19 years old. The styles of resolution conflict were measured by The Conflict Resolution Style Inventory (CRSI), the degree of emotional attachment to parents was measured by The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment and the degree of psychological reactance was measured by Hong´s Psychological Reactance Scale. The findings of the study support the idea that the late adolescents have the most conflicts in the areas as help with homework, school advantage and home relationships. Regarding of choice of conflict resolution style, adolescents with higher emotional attachment to parents use the positive problem solving. Lower degree of emotional attachment to mother associated with the choice of style withdrawal and lower degree of emotional attachment to father associated with the style conflict engagement. In connection with higher degree of psychological reactance the adolescents more often use the style conflict engagement or withdrawal.
