The influence of personality structure and temperament on the academic performance

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda se struktura osobnosti a temperamentu podílí na akademickém výkonu studenta. Teoretická část práce se skládá ze tří kapitol. V první kapitole je objasněn pojem temperament a jsou zde uvedeny teorie, které představují různé pojetí biologické podstaty a předkládají jeho možná vysvětlení. Druhá kapitola je zaměřena na popis struktury osobnosti a zejména na rysový přístup ke strukturaci osobnosti. Třetí kapitola definuje pojem školní výkon a podává bližší informace o dosavadních výzkumech struktury osobnosti a akademického výkonu. Ve výzkumné části je úkolem zjistit zda struktura osobnosti jedince ovlivňuje jeho akademický výkon. Pro zjišťování výsledků byl užit dotazník Pětifaktorového modelu osobnosti a pro zjištění temperamentubyl použit dotazník ATQ. Výsledky ukázaly, že mezi rysy osobnosti a akademickým výkonem existuje signifikantní vztah jen v dimenzi svědomitosti. Prokázal se i vliv temperamentu na akademický výkon studenta a to v dimenzi sebeovládání. U mužů se navíc prokázal i vliv dimenze pozitivní afektivity na školní výkon v negativním směru.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis was to find out whether the personality structure and temperament in some way influences the academic performance. Theoretical part of this bachelor thesis consists of three chapters. In the first charter there is descibed the concept of temperament, further are shown theories, which try to provide the possible explanations of biological base of temperamen. The second chapter is focused on description of personality structure and it is mainly focused on trait´s approach to personality structure. The third chapter defines the concept academic performance and try to give closer description of modern research about personality structure and academic performance. In practical part the main goal is to find out whether the personality structure influences academic performance. For research was used the Big Five Questionnaire and for examining temperament was used the Adult Temperament Questionnare. Results shown, that betwenn traits and academic performance is a significant link. However, only in the scale of Consciousness. The influence of temperament to academic performance was also found. Results shown the influence of effortful control to good school results. Furthera was also found the influence between positive affect and academic performance to men, however, in a negative way.
