Action Research: English Language Teaching to Children with Dyslexia at Primary School

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá výukovou dyslektických žáků v běžné třídě na základní škole. Teoretická práce zpracovává vývoj dyslexie a jejího vnímání. Popisuje podstatu dyslexie, její projevy a spojitost s dalšími specifickými poruchami učení. Práce se dále zabývá samotnou výukou anglického jazyka u dyslektiků v běžné třídě, a také popisuje a zdůrazňuje důležitost brzké identifikace symptomů dyslexie. V neposlední řadě zmiňuje několik možných výukových přístupů a metod, které lze využít při práci s dyslektickými žáky. Praktická část je provedena pomocí akčního výzkumu, který se zaměřuje na žáka třetí a šesté třídy. Snaží se popsat nejen učební styly a strategie vybraných žáků, ale také jejich problémy způsobené dyslexií v běžné výuce. Cílem akční výzkum je najít vhodné metody výuky, které ulehčí žákům s dyslexií studium cizího jazyka a zároveň budou vhodné pro celou třídu.

Abstract:

This diploma deals with teaching English language to dyslexic children at primary school. The theoretical part describes the dyslexia development and its perception. It focuses on the nature of dyslexia, its symptoms and connection with other specific learning difficulties. Moreover, it attempts to emphasize the importance of the early dyslexia identification. The thesis also draws the attention to the possible teaching approaches and methods to be used in mainstream classroom with dyslexic child or children. The action research, focused on third and sixth grade, was used in the practical part. It describes dyslexic pupils learning styles and strategies and what they struggle the most with. The aim of this research was to find suitable teaching methods which help dyslexic children to learn foreign language effectively and are appropriate for the whole class.
