The effect of the working environment on the fertility of nurses

Abstract:

Úvod: Bakalářská práce se zabývá souvislostmi mezi pracovním prostředím, neplodností v populaci, životním stylem sester na odděleních intenzivní péče a vlivem na jejich plodnost. Studie uvádí, že např. směnný provoz, stres, ionizační záření a jiné fyzikálně-chemické faktory, mají vliv na plodnost sester na odděleních intenzivní péče (Doherty et al., 2006). Cíl práce: Zjistit vliv pracovního prostředí na plodnost sester na odděleních intenzivní péče. Metodika: Kvantitativní přístup, metoda nestandardizovaný dotazník. Sběr dat v době od 1/2017 do 3/2017. Kritéria pro respondentky: všeobecné sestry z oddělení JIP, ARO a Anestezie (N = 127). Vyhodnoceno popisnou statistikou. Výsledky: Data poukazují na to, že ve vzorku se vyskytl problém s plodností ve 25,2 %, což je podstatně vyšší procento oproti 17,5 % neplodnosti v populaci uváděných WHO - World Health Organization (WHO, 2023). Z výsledků je tedy patrné, že pracovní prostředí sester na oddělení intenzivní péče má možný negativní vliv na plodnost žen (práce na směnný provoz, stresové prostředí, práce přesčas). Závěr: Práce poukazuje na negativní vliv pracovního prostředí sester na oddělení intenzivní péče na jejich plodnost a plánování těhotenství, mateřství. Možností k podpoře plodnosti sester může být zlepšení pracovních podmínek, eliminace stresových faktorů, zdravější životní styl sester a přísné dodržování hygieny práce na pracovišti, aby se vliv práce na zdraví a reprodukci sester minimalizoval.

Abstract:

Introduction: The bachelor's thesis deals with the connections between the working environment, infertility in the population, the lifestyle of nurses in intensive care units and the effect on their fertility. The study states that, for example, shift work, stress, ionizing radiation and other physico-chemical factors affect the fertility of nurses in intensive care units (Doherty et al., 2006). The object: To find out the effect of the work environment on the fertility of nurses in intensive care units. Methodology: Quantitative approach, non-standardized questionnaire method. Data collection in the period from 1/2017 to 3/2017. Criteria for female respondents: general nurses from ICU, ARO and Anesthesia departments (N = 127). Evaluated by descriptive statistics. Results: The data indicate that 25.2 % of the sample experienced a fertility problem, a significantly higher percentage than the 17.5 % population infertility reported by the WHO - World Health Organization (WHO, 2023). The results show that the working environment of nurses in the intensive care unit has a possible negative effect on women's fertility (shift work, stressful environment, overtime work). Conclusion: The work points to the negative influence of the working environment of nurses in the intensive care unit on their fertility and pregnancy planning, motherhood. Improvements in working conditions, elimination of stress factors, a healthier lifestyle for nurses and strict adherence to work hygiene in the workplace can be options to support the fertility of nurses in order to minimize the impact of work on the health and reproduction of nurses.
