Comparison of Christmas traditions and customs in the Czech republic and the largest Islamic Festival of Sacrifice

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje porovnání Vánoc slavených na území České republiky a islámského Svátku oběti. Cílem práce je nahlédnout do historie a současné podoby obou svátků, a s ohledem na tradice a lidové obyčeje, porovnat společné rysy a případné odlišnosti svátků. Práce okrajově věnuje pozornost problematice nevhodného využívání tradiční lidové kultury v masových mediích na území České republiky. Teoretická část popisuje historický vývoj svátků a v časové posloupnosti zaznamenává jejich současnou podobu. Zaměřuje se na vánoční tradice a lidové obyčeje české kultury. Výzkumná část se věnuje zejména společným rysům a odlišnostem mezi českými Vánocemi a Svátkem oběti na základě výpovědí respondentů skrze polostrukturované rozhovory. Závěr práce porovnává výsledky, které vyplynuly z kvalitativního výzkumu s ohledem na teoretické poznatky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dedicated to the comparison of the Christmas celebrated in the Czech Republic and the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice. The aim of the thesis is to look into the history and current form of both festivals, and with regard to traditions and folk customs, to compare the common features and possible differences of the festivals. The thesis also pays attention to the problem of inappropriate use of traditional folk culture in the mass media in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the history of the festivals and records their current form in a chronological sequence. It focuses on Christmas traditions and folk customs of Czech culture. The research part focuses on the common features and differences between Czech Christmas and the Festival of Sacrifice based on the respondents' statements through semi-structured interviews. The conclusion of the thesis compares the results that emerged from the qualitative research with regard to the theoretical knowledge.
