Anotácia:

Diplomová práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat potenciál komerčních videoher při samostudiu anglického jazyka. Práce se skládá ze dvou částí, části teoretické a části empirické. Teoretická část poskytuje základní vhled do problematiky výuky angličtiny a videoher. Zaměřuje se konkrétněji na motivaci a její využití ve výuce a studiu anglického jazyka. Dále se snažíme definovat a charakterizovat videohry obecně a ve vztahu k výuce a studiu anglického jazyka. Empirická část obsahuje výzkum, jehož cílem je analyzovat vybraný vzorek videoher z hlediska jejich adekvátnosti pro podporu výuky anglického jazyka. Dále představuje návrh hodin, který mohou učitelé používat ve svých hodinách. Na základě výsledků analýzy byla vybrána videohra a byl vytvořen doplňkový pracovní list. Plán lekce je poté pilotován a reflektován.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis aims to explore the potential of commercial video games for self-study of the English language. The work consists of two parts, a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part provides a basic insight into the issue of teaching English and video games. It focuses more specifically on motivation and its use in teaching and studying the English language. Furthermore, the thesis tries to define and characterize video games in general and in relation to the teaching and learning of the English language. The empirical part contains research, which aims to analyse a selected sample of video games from the point of view of their adequacy for supporting the teaching of the English language. It also presents a lesson plan that teachers can use in their lessons. Based on the results of the analysis, a video game was selected, and a supplementary worksheet was created. The lesson plan is then piloted and reflected upon.
