Dopad environmentálních, společenských a governance praktik (ESG) na výkonnost a hodnotu firem v členských státech eurozóny rozdělených podle poměru dluhu k HDP v letech 2010-2022

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá, zda se liší vliv ESG skóre na výkonnost a hodnotu firmy mezi dvěma skupinami členských zemí eurozóny, rozdělenými poměrem dluhu k HDP porovnaným s průměrem EU za období 2010-2022. Empirické důkazy ukazují, že mezi těmito skupinami rozdíl skutečně existuje. Koeficienty ESG skóre mají převážně nižší hodnoty ve skupině více zadlužených zemí než ve skupině méně zadlužených. Zvláště pak při využití výkonnosti firmy jako závislé proměnné, kdy je dopad environmentálního pilíře silně významný a pozitivní pro méně zadlužené země, zatímco pro země více zadlužené je negativně nevýznamný. Pro stejnou závislou proměnnou je pilíř podnikového řízení pro méně zadlužené země pozitivně nevýznamný, zatímco pro země více zadlužené je slabě významný a negativní. Tyto výsledky naznačují, že vysoká vládní zadluženost by mohla negativně ovlivnit účinek ESG na výkonnost firem, což by dále mohlo vést k poklesu lokálních investic do udržitelného rozvoje.

Abstract:

This thesis explores whether the effect of ESG score on firm performance and value differs between two groups of euro area member countries, differentiated by debt-to-GDP ratio relative to the EU average for the period 2010-2022. Empirical evidence of differences between the two groups is indeed found. The coefficients of ESG scores tend to be lower in value in the group of more indebted countries than in the group of the less indebted ones. Particularly when firm performance is used as dependent variable, the impact of environmental pillar is strongly significant and positive for the less indebted countries, while for the more indebted ones, it is negatively insignificant. For the same dependent variable, the governance pillar is positively insignificant for the less indebted countries, while for the more indebted ones, it is weakly significant and negative. These results imply that high government indebtedness could be detrimental to the effect of ESG on firms' performance, which in turn might lead to a decrease in local incentives to invest in sustainable development.
