Changes in the agricultural land resources in Ukraine as a result of the war conflict

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem válečného konfliktu na změny v zemědělském půdním fondu na Ukrajině. Práce je zaměřena na využití metod dálkového průzkumu Země na datech z družic Sentinel–2 a PSB.SD, které byly použity pro analýzu časových změn v půdním fondu na území dvou oblastí Ukrajiny. Na základě zpravodajských informací a již zpracovaných prací byly pro analýzu změn zvoleny oblasti Luhanská a Záporožská. V práci jsou využity metody řízené klasifikace povrchu pomocí algoritmu Support Vector Machine. Pro vypracování bylo rovněž využito spektrálních indexů NDVI, NDMI, SAVI a NBR. Pro analýzu časových změn výsledků řízené klasifikace byl použit nástroj Thematic Change. Ke zjištění rozdílů spektrálních indexů byl využit nástroj Change Detection. Výsledky obou použitých metod na datech z obou družic shodně identifikují významnou míru poškození zemědělsky využívaných půd ve dvou analyzovaných oblastech. Větší míra poškození zemědělských půd byla pomocí obou použitých metod na datech z družice Sentinel–2 diagnostikována v případě vybrané části Luhanské oblasti. Výsledky řízené klasifikace na datech z družic PSB.SD poukazují na stejný trend jako výsledky z družice Sentinel–2. Při použití druhé metody, tedy metody spektrálních indexů na datech PSB.SD bylo identifikováno větší poškození zemědělských půd v Záporožské oblasti.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines the impact of the armed conflict on changes in the agricultural land fund in Ukraine. The study focuses on the use of remote sensing methods based on Sentinel–2 and PSB.SD satellite data, which were used to analyze temporal changes in the land fund in two regions of Ukraine. Based on intelligence information and existing studies, the Luhansk and Zaporizhya regions were selected for the change analysis. The study employs supervised classification method using the Support Vector Machine algorithm. Spectral indices such as NDVI, NDMI, SAVI, and NBR were also utilized. The Thematic Change tool was used to analyze temporal changes in the results of supervised classification, while the Change Detection tool was used to identify differences between spectral indices. The results from both methods using Sentinel-2 data consistently identify a significant degree of damage to agriculturally used lands in both analyzed regions. Greater damage to agricultural lands was identified in a specific part of the Luhansk region. The results of supervised classification on PSB.SD satellite data indicate the same trend as the results from the Sentinel-2 satellite. When using the second method, namely the spectral index method on PSB.SD data, greater damage to agricultural land was identified in the Zaporizhya region.
