Prevention of Injuries with Focus on Burns in Children in School Units

Abstract:

Problematika prevence úrazů a zejména popálenin u dětské populace patří mezi velmi významná témata. Dětské úrazy jsou stále vnímány jako jeden z největších zdravotních a společenských problémů tohoto věku. Obecně je udáváno, že jsou ve světě příčinou 40 % úmrtí dětí. Úkolem preventivní výchovy je ovlivnit chování dítěte, a tím i eliminovat nebezpečí vzniku traumatu. Předem jde zejména o zmapování mechanismů a účinků rizikových faktorů v přirozeném prostředí dítěte. Následná preventivní výchova v rámci primární prevence má tyto rizika a problematická místa ukázat a definovat. Popáleninový úraz u dětí není příliš frekventním úrazem, nicméně mezi dětskými úrazy stojí na čtvrtém místě. Úrazovost a úmrtnost je závislá na socioekonomických podmínkách. Ve vyspělých zemích jsou oba tyto parametry výrazně nižší než v zemích s nízkým socioekonomickým statutem. Prostřednictvím výzkumu ve školských zařízeních jsme zjišťovali znalosti žáků základních a středních škol o rizikových faktorech vzniku termického traumatu a povědomí o trvalých následcích tohoto úrazu. Dále byly analyzovány konkrétní kazuistiky popálených dětí z praxe autora. Výsledky práce slouží rozvoji preventivní práce na úrovni rodiny i školy.

Abstract:

The issue of prevention of injuries and especially burns among children is one of the most important topics. Childhood injuries are still perceived as one of the greatest health and social problems of this age. It is generally reported that they are responsible for 40% of the world's deaths. The task of preventive education is to influence the child's behavior and thereby eliminate the risk of trauma. In particular, it is mainly mapping the mechanisms and effects of risk factors in the child's natural environment. Subsequent preventive education in the framework of primary prevention should show and define these risks and bottlenecks. A burn injury in children is not a very frequent injury, but it is fourth among child injuries. Injury and mortality are dependent on socio-economic conditions. In developed countries, both parameters are significantly lower than in countries with low socio-economic status. Through research in school facilities, we ascertained the knowledge of elementary and secondary school pupils about the risk factors for the occurrence of thermal trauma and awareness of the permanent consequences of this injury. Furthermore, specific case reports of burned children from the author's practice were analyzed. The results of the work serve the development of preventive work at the family and school level.
