Stigmatization of the People with Mental Illness from the Care Workers Perspective

Abstract:

V České republice narůstá počet osob s duševním onemocněním. Duševní onemocnění bývá spojováno s vysokou mírou stigmatizace ze strany společnosti. Stigmatizace následně způsobuje významné sociální problémy a ohrožuje kvalitu života. Cílem práce je zjistit názor pracovníků přímé péče vybraných sociálních služeb Slezské diakonie na stigmatizaci osob s duševním onemocněním. K dosažení cíle byl použit kvantitativní výzkum formou dotazníkového šetření vlastní konstrukce. Výzkumným šetřením bylo zjištěno, že dle názoru respondentů jsou lidé s duševním onemocněním diskriminováni a veřejnost má vůči těmto lidem předsudky. Respondenti pracující s lidmi s duševním onemocněním musí sami aktivně pracovat s vlastními předsudky vůči lidem s duševním onemocněním. Na základě provedené analýzy získaných dat byla vyvozena některá doporučení aplikovatelná do praxe zaměstnanců Slezské diakonie ve službách pro lidi s duševním onemocněním. Tato doporučení jsou zaměřena na oblast osvěty veřejnosti v oblasti duševního zdraví, rozšíření služeb pro lidi s duševním onemocněním, realizaci destigmatizačních aktivit, vzdělávacích aktivit pracovníků v přímé péči, či konkrétních oblastí, ve kterých potřebují lidé s duševním onemocněním největší podporu.

Abstract:

In the Czech Republic the number of people with mental health issues is increasing. Mental health illness is being connected with a high level of stigmatization from the society point of view. The aim of this work is to find out an opinion of direct care staff in selected social services of Slezská Diakonie on stigmatization of people with mental health issues. To reach the aim there has been used a quantitative research through questionnaire of own construction. Through the research it was found out that according to respondent's opinion, people with mental health issues are facing discrimination and general public has prejudices against those people. Respondents working with people with mental health issues should actively work with their own prejudices against people with mental health issues. Based on the analysis made from the received data, there were derived recommendations that are applicable to the praxis of staff members of the services for people with mental health issues in Slezská Diakonie. Those recommendations are focused on an area of education of the public in mental health, on development of services for people with mental health issues, on realization of destigmatization activities, on direct care staff training and on concrete areas where people with mental health issues need the highest level of support.
