The Narrative Construction of Identity which is Emerging in Storytelling above the Artwork Painting

Abstract:

Narativity (vyprávění, příběhy, verbální reprezentace) a obrazy (kresby, malby) jsou zdrojem různých informací o našem vnitřním světě. Avšak oba nástroje poznávání slouží k porozumění stejné reality (psychiky, subjektivity) a umocňují se, pokud jsou použity současně. Oba mody vyjádření - narativní i obrazový – jsou také indikátorem změn způsobených různými vlivy (např. terapeutickými, vývojovými, apod.). Je prezentován arteterapeutický přístup, v němž jsou výtvarná a narativní imaginace využity k expresi významných životních témat, s předpokladem, že imaginativní tvorba v obou modalitách facilituje porozumění prožívanému problému a vynořování narativní identity, do té doby jedincem nereflektované. Terapeutická změna pak souvisí s tímto komplexním procesem. Pět kazuistik ilustruje, jak se v průběhu arterapie mění podoba obrazů a příběhy jimi inspirované. Změna stylu výtvarného zpracování námětu a žánru vyprávění jsou indikátory vynořující se identity. Re-konfigurace výtvarného stylu a žánru vyprávění pak mohou odkazovat k re-konfiguraci identity.

Abstract:

Narratives (story telling, verbal representation) and pictures (drawing, painting) are the source of different information about our inner world. But both means of knowing serve also as a way of understanding of the same reality (psyche, subjectivity) and they potentiate themselves if they are used at the same time. Both modes of expression – narrative and picture related – indicate changes caused by various influences (e.g. therapeutic, developmental) as well. Art therapy approach, in which visual and narrative imagination are used to expression of important life themes, is presented. It is supposed that imaginative creation in both modalities facilitates understanding of trouble experience and also narrative identity emerging, which the individual has not reflected till now. Therapeutic change is connected with this complex process. Five case studies illustrate the shift in form of pictures and narratives inspired by them during art therapy. Change of artistic style and storytelling genre indicates identity emerging. Re-configuration of painting style and story genres can refer also to identity re-configuration.
