Somatization tendencies, attachment style, separation anxiety and self-efficacy among mothers of children with respiratory disease

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje problematice somatizačních tendencí u matek dětí s respiračním onemocněním a klade si za cíl zmapovat, jak proměnné jako separační úzkost, citová vazba (její dimenze vztahové vyhý-bavosti a vztahové úzkostnosti) a rodičovské vědomí vlastní účinnosti, následnou míru těchto somatizačních tendencí ovlivňují. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku 200 respondentek, matek dětí s respiračním onemocněním, ve věku 24 – 56 let (M = 36,97; SD = 4,86). Na základě výsledků provedených analýz lze kon-statovat, že vyšší míra separační úzkosti, nižší míra rodičovského vědomí vlastní účinnosti a vyšší hodnoty na škále vazbové úzkostnosti signifikantně souvisí s vyšším výskytem somatizačních tendencí u matek dětí s respiračním onemocněním, zatímco vazbová vyhýbavost nikoli. Jako statisticky signifikantní prediktory somatizačních tendencí se ukázaly separační úzkost a rodičovské vědomí vlastní účinnosti a další z prediktorů (vazbová úzkostnost a vazbová vyhýbavost) se již nijak významně neprojevily. V závěru práce jsou pak výsledky v souladu s dalšími výzkumy diskutovány a opomenuty nejsou ani možná vysvětlení, limity studie a doporučení pro další výzkum.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the topic of somatization tendencies among mothers of children with respiratory diseases. It aims to map out how variables such as separation anxiety, attachment (its dimensions of avoid-ance and anxiety), and parental self-efficacy affect the level of somatization tendencies. The research was conducted on a sample of 200 respondents, mothers of children with respiratory diseases, aged 24 – 56 (M = 26.97; SD = 4.86). It can be concluded based on the results of the analyses that a higher level of separation anxiety, a lower level of parental self-efficacy, and higher values on the attachment anxiety scale are significantly related to a higher occurrence of somatization tendencies among mothers of children with respiratory diseases, while attachment avoidance is not related. Separation anxiety and parental self-efficacy were found to be statistically significant predictors of somatization tendencies. Other predictors (attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance) did not play a significant role. These results are then discussed with relation to other research findings. Possible explanations, limits of this study, and recommendations for further research are presented as well.
