Advertising & Street art as Legal and Illegal Forms of Public Space Privatization.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce „Reklama & street art – jako legální a nelegální formy privatizace veřejného prostoru“ se pokouší nastínit současnou situaci vizuálních proměn veřejného prostoru. Rozebírá problematiku privatizace veřejného prostoru z pohledu jak legálních forem v podobě outdoorové reklamy, tak i nelegálních v podobě street artu. Práce zevrubně rozebírá vztah obou projevů i jejich odlišný obsahový základ. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována představení konkrétních příkladů déournementu v oblasti reklamy, na jehož základě poukazuje na možné projevy boje proti privatizaci veřejného prostoru a přehlcení reklamou. Práce by měla vést především k zamyšlení nad současným stavem veřejných prostor a neviditelnou mocí privátních zájmů.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis – advertisement & street art as legaland illegal forms of private space privatization is trying to describe the current situation of visual changes in the city environment. It analyses the problematic of public space privatistaion from the legal view in the form of outdoor advertising, and the illegal form in the shape of street art. The thesis thoroughly analyses the relation of both ways and their different content. Special attention is given to present concrete examples of developing changes in the advertising area, and on that base it points out on possible manifestations of struggle against the public space privatization and overwhelming by advertising. Above all, the thesis should lead to thinking about the current status of public space, and invisible power of private interests.
