Career Development of Tourism Graduates

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je vysokoškolské vzdělávání v cestovním ruchu a následný rozvoj kariéry absolventů tohoto oboru. Cílem práce je zjistit, do jaké míry absolventy připravila na jejich profesní život vysoká škola, s čím byli spokojeni a s čím nikoliv, v jakém oboru a typu společností aktuálně pracují a jak jsou s nynější kariérou spokojeni. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř hlavních kapitol. První kapitola pojednává o vysokoškolském vzdělávání v oboru cestovní ruch. Zmíněny jsou zde vysoké školy vyučující tento obor, jeho specifika a způsob výuky. Předmětem druhé kapitoly je trh práce, což zahrnuje vývoj zaměstnanosti a úrovně vzdělání zaměstnaných, potřeby zaměstnavatelů a spolupráci zaměstnavatelů terciárního sektoru se školami. Třetí kapitola se zaměřuje již na zaměstnanost v cestovním ruchu, konkrétně na statistický monitoring, jednotlivá odvětví cestovního ruchu, multiplikační efekt cestovního ruchu a problémy se zaměstnaností. Poslední kapitola se zabývá již samotnou praktickou částí, která vychází z online dotazníku vyplněného absolventy oboru Cestovní ruch na Vysoké škole ekonomické v Praze. V této části je vyhodnocena míra spokojenosti s výukou a její adekvátností na profesní život, který je dále podrobněji rozebrán. Výsledkem práce je zobrazení druhu společností, kam absolventi po vystudování pokračují a zda je vysoká škola na tuto kariéru připravila, což zahrnuje i případné nedostatky studia. Následně jsou zdůrazněny kladné stránky výuky a určeny návrhy na zlepšení některých slabin.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is specifically concerned with the effect of higher education in tourism on development of current career. The aim is to find out to what extent the university prepared graduates in the field of tourism for their professional life, what graduates were satisfied and dissatisfied with, in what field and type of companies they are currently working and if they are satisfied with their current career. The thesis is divided into four main chapters. The first chapter deals with higher education in tourism. It is focused on the universities teaching this field, its specifics and way of teaching. The topic of the second chapter is the labour market, which includes the development of employment and the level of education of employees, the needs of employers and the cooperation of tertiary sector employers with universities. The third chapter focuses on employment in tourism, specifically on statistical monitoring, individual tourism sectors, multiplier effect of tourism and employment problems. The last chapter includes the practical part, which is based on an online questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent to graduates of Tourism study program at the University of Economics in Prague. This part evaluates the level of satisfaction with teaching and its adequacy to professional life, which is further analysed in detail. These results of the thesis show kinds of companies, where the graduates continue after their studies and whether the university prepared them well for their career, which also includes some shortcomings in their studies. Finally, the positive aspects of teaching are highlighted and proposals for removing some weaknesses are suggested.
