Ideological Basis and Practice of Selected Contemporary Societies of Beautification in Czech Republic in Environmental Context

Abstract:

Práce se snaží představit okrašlovací spolky jako svébytnou podobu naší občanské společnosti po roce 1989. Vychází z historického kontextu. Nastiňuje společenské a ideové předpoklady formování okrašlovacích spolků v druhé polovině 19. století a sleduje osudy tohoto hnutí až do jeho nuceného zániku v roce 1951. V různých dimenzích se snaží uchopit rozmanitou činnost těchto spolků a definovat jejich odkaz dnešku. Závěr teoretické části stručně charakterizuje současný stav okrašlovacích spolků v ČR. V empirické části práce přechází do kompilační studie vybraných okrašlovacích spolků působících v současnosti na území Zlínského a Jihomoravského kraje. Zajímá se jednak o ideová východiska jejich obnovování, jednak o šíři jejich aktivit. Na základě studia textových dokumentů, mediálních zpráv a záznamů z terénních výzkumů tematizuje čtyři základní dimenze aktivit okrašlovacích spolků – činnost okrašlovací, činnost politicko-ideovou, činnost zábavní a činnost ochrannou. K těmto čtyřem typům aktivit přidává další – činnost environmentální – a zkoumá, zda aktivity současných okrašlovacích spolků vykazují také prvky této dimenze. Závěrem práce hodnotí přínos těchto spolků pro rozvoj aktivní občanské společnosti i možnosti jejich využití v praktické ochraně přírody.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is an attempt to present societies for beautification as a peculiar form of our civil society after 1989. The thesis builds up on a historical context. It outlines social and ideological preconditions for the emergence of societies for beautification during the second half of 19th century and follows the history of this movement up to its forced extinction in 1951. On different levels it also tries to grasp the diverse activities of these societies and to define their legacy in our times. The conclusion of the theoretical part briefly characterizes the current state of societies for beautification in the Czech Republic. The empirical part is focused on a compilatory study of chosen societies for beautification currently active in the area of Zlínský and Jihomoravský kraj. The emphasis is put on ideological basis of their resurgence as well as on the scope of their activities. Based on the studies of textual documents, media sources and field notes the thesis defines four basic dimensions of activities – the beautification activity, political and ideological activity, entertaining activity, and protective activity. There is another activity joining these four activities – environmental activity. This work also examines if there are traces of the environmental activity in the current societies for beautification.
