Abstract:

Dosáhnout udržitelných obchodních praktik a zároveň uspokojit finanční očekávání akcionářů je stále důležitější otázkou. Cílem této studie je empiricky prozkoumat vztah mezi kritérii environmentální, sociální a správy (ESG) a finanční výkonností podniků. Byla použita roční data ESG a finanční výkonnosti 185 veřejně obchodovaných společností z východní Evropy. K testování hypotézy byly sestaveny modely regresí s náhodnými a fixními efekty. Bylo zjištěno, že kritéria ESG mají významně pozitivní dopad na měření návratnosti aktiv u studovaných společností, avšak výsledky dopadu na Tobinovo Q nebyly jednoznačné. To ukazuje slibné výsledky a naznačuje, že začlenění ESG praktik do obchodních strategií může zvýšit provozní efektivitu a ziskovost společností ve východní Evropě.

Abstract:

Achieving sustainable business practices and satisfying the financial expectations of shareholders at the same time is an increasingly important issue. The aim of this study is to empirically investigate the relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria with corporate financial performance. Annual ESG and financial performance data of 185 publicly listed companies from Eastern Europe are used. A mix of random and fixed effects regression models were constructed to test the hypothesis. It was found that ESG criteria has significantly positive impact on return of assets measurement of the studied companies, however the results on impact on Tobin’s Q were not conclusive. This shows promising results and suggests that incorporating ESG practices into business strategies can enhance the operational efficiency and profitability of companies in Eastern Europe.
