Ideological foundations of the theory of Aryan racial superiority

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá myšlenkou nadřazenosti árijské rasy a jejím formováním v dílech vybraných autorů. Teorie o nadřazenosti árijské rasy se stala ideovým základem nedemokratického režimu nacistického Německa a měla praktické a smutné dopady na německou společnost v první polovině 20. století. Práce se věnuje několika dílům, ve kterých se poprvé objevuje myšlenka o tom, že Árijci (respektive árijští Germáni) jsou rasou nadřazenou nad rasy jiné. Většina autorů se shoduje na lepších fyzických a duševních schopnostech Árijců a proto je považuje za nejušlechtilejší lidskou rasu. Někteří autoři pro to předkládají racionální argumenty, v pojetí jiných autorů je tato myšlenka pouze propagandou bez rozumných důvodů. K rozvoji myšlenky o nadřazenosti Árijců přispěly i jiné ideové proudy, jako například sociální darwinismus, nebo teorie eugeniky. Sociální darwinismus byl vybudován na základě teorie evoluce Charlese Darwina, předpokládající vývoj na principu přírodního výběru. Tato teorie byla sociálními darwinisty převedena na lidskou společnost a částečně dezinterpretována. Zakladatelem eugeniky byl Francis Galton, Darwinův bratranec, který objevil způsob jak uměle urychlit princip přírodního výběru. Eugenika, která měla vést k rychlému a cílenému šlechtění lidské rasy, byla později realizována v praxi v podobě euthanasií nebo nucených sterilizací. V nacistickém Německu se eugenika stala metodou pro vyšlechtění čistokrevných Árijců. V této souvislosti je známý nacistický rasový ideolog Heinrich Himmler jako projekt Lebensborn. Cílem práce je poukázat na ideové základy teorie o nadřazenosti Árijců a stručně reflektovat, jak se tyto teorie projevily v nacistickém pojetí rasy a v praxi nacistického Německa.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the philosophical foundations of non-democratic regime of Nazi Germany, especially on the thought of dominance of the Aryan race. This thought is possible to find in many writings coming especially from the 19th century. This thought had also a disastrous impact on German society during the first half of 20th century. In this thesis I focus on some selected works, which the thought of the Aryan dominance can be found in. Some authors present quite rational arguments of Aryan dominance and they also explain that the Aryans have the best physical and mental abilities and therefore they are better than the others. However, some authors aren?t capable to justify rationally their theories, which seem to be more likely a part of propaganda. The development of the idea of the Aryan dominance was supported by other theories such as social Darwinism or eugenics. Social Darwinism was built on theoretical basis for evolutionary theory presented by Charles Darwin. His theory was, however, for this purpose partially misinterpreted. The founder of the theory of eugenics was Darwin?s cousin Francis Galton. He found a way to artificially accelerate the principles of evolutionary theory. Eugenics was implemented in practice, unfortunately, in the form of euthanasia and forced sterilization. In the Nazi Germany the eugenics became a cruel method to breed a pure Aryan. These attempts were implemented by Heinrich Himmler as project Lebensborn. This thesis is supposed to point out the basic philosophical foundations of the Aryan dominance theory and also how these theories are reflected in the Nazi conception of race and practice of Nazi Germany.
