Presentation of the Czech Republic in the United Kingdom

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je popsat a analyzovat prezentaci České republiky ve Velké Británii. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol. První kapitola seznamuje čtenáře s pojmem nation branding, image ČR v zahraničí (i na základě vlastního dotazníkového šetření) a pokusy ČR o zlepšení vlastní prezentace. Následující tři kapitoly pojednávají o činnosti vládních agentur především v oblasti prezentace ČR. Druhá kapitola věnuje pozornost významu ekonomické diplomacie, jejím aktérům (zastupitelským úřadům ČR v zahraničí, CzechTradu a CzechInvestu) a důležitosti VB jako obchodního partnera ČR. Třetí kapitola zkoumá snahy CzechTourismu o propagaci ČR jako turistické destinace a čtvrtá kapitola sleduje kulturní prezentaci ČR ve VB Českým centrem Londýn. Důraz je v práci kladen především na aktivity roku 2012 a projekt Českého domu při LOH 2012 v Londýně.

Abstract:

The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to describe and analyse the presentation of the Czech Republic in the United Kingdom. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the reader to the concept of nation branding, the image of the Czech Republic abroad (including on the basis of my own survey) and attempts by the Czech Republic to improve its presentation. The next three chapters deal with activities of government agencies, especially those with the aim of promoting the Czech Republic. The second chapter shows the importance of economic diplomacy, its players (Czech embassies, CzechTrade and CzechInvest) and the UK as a trading partner for the Czech Republic. The chapter concludes with a comparison of British and Czech business meeting styles. The third chapter examines the efforts of CzechTourism to promote the country as a tourist destination, while the fourth chapter follows the presentation of Czech culture in the UK by the Czech Centre London. Emphasis is placed on the activities of 2012 and the project of the Czech House during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
