Vegetation succession on disused railways in the eastern part of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

V České republice je velké množství železničních tratí. Z různých důvodů dochází občas ke zrušení některé trati. Většinou se zrušená trať ponechává dále bez zásahu a začne se na ní spontánní sukcesí tvořit vegetace. Tato práce se zabývá studiem sukcese na osmi zrušených železničních tratích na Moravě a ve východních Čechách pomocí metody chronosekvence. Na těchto tratích bylo v roce 2018 zapsáno 28 fytocenologických snímků umístěných podélně ve střední části bývalého kolejiště. Pokryvnost byla hodnocena rozšířenou devítistupňovou Braun-Blanquetovou stupnicí. Zkoumán byl vliv doby od zrušení trati, vlhkosti lokality a rozdíl mezi různými typy zemního tělesa trati (vyvýšený násep, svah, rovina nebo zářez), a to z hlediska celkové diverzity, zastoupení Raunkiærových životních forem a strategií šíření rostlin. Dále byly analyzovány průměrné ellenbergovské hodnoty snímků a na datech byla provedena detrendovaná korespondenční analýza. Se vzrůstajícím stářím lokality narůstá počet druhů stromového patra a počet semenáčků. Narůstá také počet druhů se strategií šíření Bidens a Cornus. Ve snímcích na rovině se vyskytovalo více hemikryptofytů, naopak fanerofytů bylo nejvíce v zářezech. Detrendovaná korespondenční analýza ve směru první osy zobrazila gradient zastínění lokality, přibližně ve směru druhé osy pak gradient množství srážek.

Abstract:

Czech Republic has a large number of railway tracks. Some of them have been closed for various reasons. A closed track is usually left without any interventions, and vegetation develops through spontaneous succession. This study deals with vegetation succession on eight disused railway tracks in the Czech Republic using the Space-for-Time Substitution method. In 2018 I recorded twenty-eight phytosociological relevés in Moravia and eastern Bohemia using the extended Braun-Blanquet scale of abundance. The relevés were placed lengthwise in the middle of the former tracks. I studied the effects of time since railway closing and precipitation. I also analysed differences between railways on the top of embankments, on slopes, on the plain surface or in entrenched sections (cuttings). Species richness, Raunkiær life forms, dispersal strategies and mean Ellenberg-type indicators values were compared, and detrended correspondence analysis was applied to species composition data. The number of adult and juvenile trees, and the number of species with Bidens and Cornus dispersal strategy were increasing with the time since abandonment. The amount of hemicryptophytes was higher on the railways on plain surface. In the entrenched sections phanerophytes were more common than on other relief types. The first axis of detrended correspondence analysis was correlated with the amount of shading and the second axis with precipitation.
