The dosimetric comparison of the radiotherapeutic process of the conventional linear accelerator and CyberKnife within the spine area

Abstract:

Tato práce je postavena na dozimetrickém srovnání radioterapeutického procesu konvenčního lineárního urychlovače a CyberKnife pro oblast páteře využívaných pro paliativní a kurativní léčbu pacientů ve Fakultní nemocnici Ostrava. Přesnost ozařování těchto přístrojů byla srovnána za pomocí End-to-End testu, který se v praxi používá pouze u přístroje CyberKnife. Pomocí antropomorfního modelu hlavy obsahující cílový objem v oblasti páteře byl vytvořen ozařovací plán pro oba přístroje. U každého měření byly použity dva gafchromatické filmy, které byli uloženy do cílového objemu v oblasti páteře pro zaznamenání dávky. Fantom hlavy byl ozářen da konvenčním lineárním urychlovači pomocí verifikace ortogonálními kV snímky a ConeBeam CT a na přístroji CyberKnife byl ozářen pomocí verifikace Xsight sight spine tracking. Výsledky End-to-End testů vyšly podobně pro konvenční lineární urychlovač a CyberKnife. U konvenčního lineárního urychlovače byla potvrzena nižší přesnost ozařování za pomoci verifikace ortogonálními kV snímky než při verifikaci pomocí ConeBeam CT.

Abstract:

This work is based on a dosimetric comparison of the radiotherapeutic process of the conventional linear accelerator and CyberKnife within the spine area used for paliative and curative treatment of patients at the University Hospital of Ostrava. The irradiations accuracy of these devices was compared using the End-to-End test, witch is used in practice only with the cyberKnife device. Using an anthropomorphic model of head containing the target volume within the spinal area an irradiation plan was created for both devices. Two gafchromatic films were used for each measurement and placed in the target volume within the spine area to record the dose. The phantom of the head was irradiated with a conventional linear accelerator using orthogonal kV image verification and ConeBeam CT, and was irradiated on the CyberKnife using Xsight spine tracking verification. End-to-End test results were similar for the conventional linear accelerator and CyberKnife. The conventional linear accelerator confirmed lower irradiation accuracy with orthogonal kV image verification than with ConeBeam CT verification.
