Geography of fear in the cities of Přerov and Kojetín

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá geografií strachu žen. Zkoumá místa, situace či osoby, jichž se ženy ve městech bojí. Zajímá se, jaké používají strategie pro zvýšení svého subjektivního pocitu bezpečí a jakou roli hraje věk žen a časoprostor, ve kterém se pohybují. Cílem práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem je utvářeno výsledné vnímání strachu žen při pohybu po městě. V práci byly použity kvantitativní i kvalitativní metody výzkumu. Výzkum byl proveden mezi ženami žijícími a denně se pohybujícími ve městech Kojetín nebo Přerov. Mezi ženami z těchto měst bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření. S dvanácti ženami byly provedeny semistrukturované rozhovory. Ženy se mnohem více bojí v noci než ve dne. Vlivem nedokonalého pouličního osvětlení nemusí být dobře vidět, kdo se kde skrývá a také v noci není v ulicích dostatečné množství „potenciálních strážců“. Nejčastěji zmiňované místo strachu v Přerově je vlakové nádraží a jeho široké okolí. V Kojetíně jsou místa strachu žen více rozptýlena, nejčastěji zmiňovaná místa jsou vlakové nádraží a okolí, Masarykovo náměstí a park na Palackého ulici.

Abstract:

This work deals with the geographical locations that women fear. It examines places, situations or people that women in cities are afraid of. This interest is in what strategies are used to increase their subjective sense of security. What is the role of the age of women and the space-time in where they move? The aim of this work is to find out how it is formed from the perception of fear that women possess when they are moving around in a city. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were used in this work. The research was conducted among women living and moving daily in the cities Kojetin and Prerov. A questionnaire survey was conducted among women from these cities. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve women. It was found that women were much more afraid at night than during the day. Due to imperfect street lighting, it may not be easy to see who is hiding. Even at night, there are not enough potential guards patrolling the streets. The most frequently mentioned places of fear in Prerov are the train station and its wide surroundings. In Kojetin, women’s fears are more scattered, like Masaryk Square and the park on Palackého Street.
