Diagnostics of Musicality Focusing on Language Literacy of Fifth Grade Primary School Students

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá souvislostmi mezi hudebností a jazykovou gramotností v cizím jazyce. Práce má teoreticko-empirický charakter, její první část se věnuje teoretickým východiskům hudebnosti a jazykové gramotnosti, též jsou představeny jejich styčné body. Empirická část představuje výzkum, jehož cílem bylo zjistit, jaké souvislosti lze nacházet mezi úrovní hudebnosti a jazykové gramotnosti žáků 5. ročníků základní školy. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 54 žáků 5. ročníků a výzkumným nástrojem byla kolektivní prověrka hudebnosti a test z anglického jazyka. Data byla zpracována prostřednictvím korelační analýzy. Výsledná zjištění prokazují středně silnou souvislost jak mezi celkovou úrovní hudebnosti a poslechovými schopnostmi v cizím jazyce, tak i některými dílčími hudebními schopnostmi a poslechovými schopnostmi v cizím jazyce. V závěru práce jsou uvedena doporučení pro praxi, včetně možnosti využití naší autorské prověrky hudebnosti.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the relationship between musicality and language literacy in a foreign language. It has a theoretical-empirical character. The first part focuses on the theoretical basis of musicality and language literacy, while also introducing mutual specific features. The empirical part presents research, in which the aim was to discover what observable connections there are between the level of musicality and language literacy of the 5th grade primary school pupils. The research group consisted of fifty-four 5th graders. The research tools were a collective examination of music, and an English language test. Obtained data were subsequently processed by correlation analysis. The resulting findings confirmed a moderately strong connection between an overall level of musicality and listening skills in a foreign language, as well as a link between certain partial musical skills and listening skills in a foreign language. The final thesis section offers recommendations for practice, including the possibility of using our authorial examination of musicality.
