The diploma thesis studies the proverbs used in the Czech and English texts of The Grandmother by Božena Němcová and Saturnin by Zdeněk Jirotka. The theoretical part deals with the fields of paremiology that might be useful for the translation of proverbs (definition, features, origin, function, translation strategies). Diplomová práce zkoumá přísloví v českých a anglických textech Babičky Boženy Němcové a Saturnina Zdeňka Jirotky. Teoretická část práce se zabývá poznatky z paremiologie, které mohou ovlivňovat překlad přísloví (definice, znaky, původ, funkce, překladatelské strategie).
