The role of the US, Canada and the UK in the reform of the Ukrainian army in 2014-2022

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje analýze úlohy Spojených států (USA), Kanady a Spojeného království (VB) v procesu restrukturalizace ukrajinské ozbrojené síly v období 2014–2022. Reflektuje důvody dodávek vojenského materiálu od USA, Kanady a VB a hlouběji se zabývá tematikou, která je nyní na vrcholu agendy mezinárodního prostředí 21. století a geopolitického uspořádání suverénního státu Ukrajiny. Dopad vojenského materiálu dodávaného na Ukrajinu bude podroben komplexnímu hodnocení prostřednictvím analýzy odborných strategických dokumentů dostupných na oficiálních webových stránkách vlád, ministerstev obrany a ministerstev zahraničních věcí USA, Kanady a VB, včetně relevantní literatury. Práce klade důraz na rozvoj vojenského potenciálu Ukrajiny v kontextu expanze ozbrojených sil Ukrajiny a Ruské federace, včetně anexe Krymu, a na postupné vybavení ukrajinské ozbrojené síly materiálním a technickým arzenálem ze strany USA, Kanady a VB. Specifickým zkoumáním jsou tréninkové mise, bojová příprava a intelektuální rozvoj vojenského personálu, který probíhá od samého počátku invaze. V závěrečné fázi projektu bude provedeno vyhodnocení aktuálního stavu vojenských operací a budou analyzovány praktické výsledky a přínos s ohledem na celkovou obranu Ukrajiny.

Abstract:

The thesis analyses the role of the United States (US), Canada and the United Kingdom (UK) in the process of restructuring the Ukrainian armed forces in the period 2014-2022. It reflects on the reasons for the supply of military equipment from the US, Canada and the UK and delves deeper into a topic that is now at the top of the agenda of the 21st century international environment and the geopolitical ordering of the sovereign state of Ukraine. The impact of military equipment supplied to Ukraine will be comprehensively assessed through analysis of expert policy documents available on the official websites of the US, Canadian and UK governments, defence and foreign ministries, including relevant literature. The thesis emphasises the development of Ukraine's military potential in the context of the expansion of the armed forces of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, including the annexation of Crimea, and the progressive provision of the Ukrainian armed forces with material and technical arsenal by the US, Canada and the UK. Specifically examined are the training missions, combat preparation, and intellectual development of military personnel that has been ongoing since the very beginning of the invasion. The final phase of the project will evaluate the current state of military operations and analyze the practical results and benefits with respect to the overall defense of Ukraine.
