The importance of the housing sector in modelling a small open economy

Abstract:

Cílem práce je posoudit význam sektoru bydlení na dynamiku malé otevřené ekonomiky pomocí dynamického stochastického modelu všeobecné rovnováhy identifikovaného na datech České republiky. Práce se zabývá kvantifikováním vlivů vybraných šoků na reálné HDP a reálné ceny domů. Teoretická část přibližuje poznatky modelování se sektorem bydlení formou literární rešerše. Následně je představen model a použité metody. Praktická část je zaměřena na kalibraci a estimaci parametrů, na které navazuje samotný odhad modelu a jeho verifikace. V neposlední řadě jsou provedeny simulace tří odlišných scénářů formou impulzních odezev pro alternativní nastavení hodnot podílu spotřebitelů v ekonomice, LTV a otevřenosti ekonomiky.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to assess importance of housing sector to the dynamics of a small open economy using a dynamic stochastic model of general equilibrium that is identified on the data of the Czech Republic. The work deals with quantifying effects of selected shocks on the real GDP and real house prices. The theoretical part presents the findings of modeling with the housing sector in the form of literary research. Subsequently, the model and used methods are introduced. The practical part is focused on the calibration and estimation of parameters followed by the estimation of the model and its verification. Last but not least, simulations of three different scenarios are performed in the form of impulse responses for alternative settings of proportion of consumers in the economy, LTV and openness of the economy.
