Comparison of corn and sorghum biomass production in dry area conditions

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo porovnat produkci biomasy různých odrůd kukuřice a čiroku v podmínkách suché oblasti. V práci byly vyhodnoceny 2 pokusy, které probíhaly na Polní pokusné stanici v Žabčicích v roce 2021. První pokus zahrnoval celkem 11 odrůd čiroku a 1 kontrolní odrůdu kukuřice na dvou stanovištích (Obora, Písky). Ve druhém pokusu bylo vyhodnoceno 5 odrůd kukuřice na stanovišti Obora. U obou pokusů byla vyhodnocena produkce čerstvé nadzemní hmoty, sušiny a ekonomika pěstování. Výnos čerstvé hmoty i sušiny u odrůd čiroku byl průkazně ovlivněn stanovištěm, přičemž vyšších výnosů bylo dosaženo na stanovišti Obora. Mezi odrůdami čiroku byly průkazné rozdíly v produkci čerstvé hmoty a sušiny. Z odrůd čiroku dosáhla nejvyššího výnosu čerstvé hmoty odrůda čiroku Big Kahuna BMR (82,75 t∙ha-1) a výnosu sušiny odrůda KWS Tarzan (26,1 t∙ha-1). Nejlepší odrůdy kukuřice dosáhly výnosu čerstvé hmoty 81,8 t∙ha-1 (FAO 370) a výnosu sušiny 27,8 t∙ha-1 (FAO 290). Z hlediska ekonomického pohledu jsou obě plodiny srovnatelné, lépe dopadly výnosné odrůdy čiroku s levným osivem (např. Latte). Z výsledků práce lze usuzovat, že čirok může být vhodnou alternativou za pěstování kukuřice na siláž v teplých a suchých oblastech České republiky.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was comparing of the biomass production of different varieties of corn and sorghum in dry area. In the thesis were evaluated 2 experiments at the Field experimental station in Žabčice in 2021. The first experiment included an 11 sorghum varieties and 1 control maize variety at two sites (Obora, Písky). In the second experiment, 5 maize varieties were evaluated at the Obora site. In both experiments were evaluated the fresh matter yield, dry matter yield and the cultivation economics. The fresh matter yield and dry matter yield in sorghum varieties was demonstrably influenced by the habitat and higher yields were achieved at the Obora site. There were significant differences in fresh matter yield and dry matter yield between sorghum varieties. Of the sorghum varieties, had the most fresh matter yield the Big Kahuna BMR variety (82.75 t∙ha-1) and the KWS Tarzan variety (26.1 t∙ha-1) achieved the highest yield of dry matter. The best maize varieties obtained a fresh matter yield of 81.8 t∙ha-1 (FAO 370) and a dry matter yield of 27.8 t∙ha-1 (FAO 290). From the economic perspective, both crops are comparable, but more profitable were varieties of sorghum with cheap seeds (e.g. Latte). Based on the results of the work it can be concluded that sorghum can be a suitable alternative for cultivation of forage maize in warm and dry areas of the Czech Republic.
